Duthy Homes

Chris Duthy has always maintained a strong presence in SA, from his days as a SANFL footballer playing for Glenelg, to running his renowned high quality home building company, Duthy Homes.

Duthy Homes first consulted Häfele for Chris Duthy’s own private residence and display home in the Adelaide seaside suburb of Brighton.  Local architect Jim Lelliott worked with Duthy Homes to create a stunning seaside residence. 

The brief provided to Häfele was for two large glass walls in the kitchen and games areas that needed to be fully opened, with an emphasis on transparency and maximising the usability of the combined indoor/outdoor spaces.  The treatment of these two glass walls was crucial to the feeling of space and light and the client wanted to bring the outside in to this entertainer’s home. 

The solutions for opening up these two glass walls were selected from Häfele’s Hawa range of frameless glass folding door systems.  After consulting with the architect and client about the intended use of the indoor and outdoor spaces, Hawa Variofold 80/GV and Hawa Variotec 150/GV were recommended.

Hawa Variofold 80/GV Frameless Folding Door System was selected for the 7.2m wide kitchen glass wall,with a configuration of 2 panels folding to one side and 6 panels folding to the other side.  This configuration allowed the possibility of opening just a small section of the glass wall for regular access, or the entire wall when entertaining.  With the glass wall fully opened, the poolside kitchen courtyard and interior kitchen space blend seamlessly.

Hawa Variotec 150/GV Frameless Stacking Door System was selected for the 5m glass wall dividing the games room and al fresco entertaining area.  The glass wall is divided into 5 equal panels consisting of a single pivot panel and 4 sliding panels, all stacking at 90° when opened.  The flexibility of Hawa Variotec 150/GV makes it ideal for the use in this the area, with the client able to open one or as many panels as desired, depending on the entertainment requirements.

The Häfele StarTec Coastal range of stainless steel door furniture was also used throughout the home to complement the clean modern lines of this elegant and contemporary home.
