Design Statement:
The Point project is positioned on a triangular shaped 2.3ha site on the Mandurah foreshore, The site is surrounded by the waters of Mandjar Bay and the Mandurah estuary on two sides and the Mandurah Ocean Marina to the North.

The site is highly visible from every direction and is a pivotal position in relation to the Mandurah City Centre and the foreshore. The Point‘s layout also addresses views, landmarks and its overall position within the Mandurah foreshore locality.

In order to create a landmark development, the buildings on the site were carefully located. The tallest building (Bridge Point) was positioned in the centre of the site stepped down to two smaller buildings on either side (Sea Point and Bay View Point). This change in height acknowledges the adjoining neighbours and provides for the opportunity for architectural expression within a cohesive overall form. It also enabled the site to become a true landmark within the City of Mandurah.

The design of the apartments on all facades has ensured the buildings have no front and back but are activated on all elevations. The two, three and four bedroom apartments within the three buildings and the podium were carefully design to accommodate generous and efficient living spaces all of which have access to views, natural light and ventilation.

Each apartment was designed to maximise the views whilst still maintaining functionality and privacy. Large balconies have been provided to all apartments to facilitate amenity, provide extensive shade and provide useable external space. Full height adjustable sliding louvres create additional shade and enclosure when required, and provide a dynamic façade depending the time of the day and the season.

The orientation of the buildings creates dramatic ‘view corridors’ through the site and privacy between balconies and apartments is provided by blade walls which further modulate and articulate the elevations of the buildings. These blades also provide vertical emphasis and clearly define individual apartments.

The overall design focused on encouraging connectivity with the neighbouring marina and city centre, as well as capturing the heritage features of the site which included a Moreton Bay fig tree, an area of aboriginal significance and adjoining jetty.

The Point has been designed to ensure a variety of community spaces that encouraged social and community activity. Passive spaces include an exclusive courtyard garden with barbeque facilities, swimming pool and spa for all residents. Communal active areas include walk/cycle paths and public open spaces such as the area surrounding the Moreton Bay fig tree.

High end fixtures and fittings were used in all apartments, with floor to ceiling glazing incorporated to frame the views of the estuary, ocean, marina and the Mandurah foreshore.

For this contemporary design project, Häfele supplied a full schedule of fittings including door hardware, sliding door tracks and kitchen accessories including waste bins, drawers and pantry units.

The products supplied included the new coastal series lever handles and a selection from the StarTec Architectural Hardware range. The lever handles supplied feature 316 marine grade stainless steel finish, which is long lasting and fits perfectly with the contemporary style and ambience of the Project.

Stone, timber veneer, lacquered cabinetry and plush 100% wool carpeting provided a high level of finish and there were three different interior colour schemes to choose from (Green Tea, Milk and Ginger).

The high quality of finish extends to the hotel and commercial areas and the Bar and Restaurant, known as ‘M on the Point’ has an interior of leather, marble and French oak from the old wine vats of Mildura and artwork by local artists Theo Koenig and Elle Deslands – to echo an upmarket beach house.
