HONEYCOMB CONNECTOR FAMILY UPDATE

Häfele has taken a leadership role in the development of connectors for honeycomb panels as the trend in lightweight panel technology evolves.

Changes in both connector and honeycomb technology are now making it easier to use the two together. “Traditionally, wherever there was a need for a structural joint, framing inside was required because they needed an anchoring area. We developed a high-quality, precise way of connecting honeycomb panels without framing” says Donn Wilber, Product Manager for Häfele America Co.

Honeycomb panels are light weight and compatible with a material thickness of 1” or greater.  The use of honeycomb connectors saves time and costs as there is no glue bonding or special equipment required.  The same machinery used for connectors such as Minifix, Rafix, and Tab-A can be used for the honeycomb applications.  Wood welding is unnecessary as the connectors fit into predrilled holes and are fastened by screws.

Häfele sees a change in panel thicknesses that will lower cost and offers furniture designers more flexibility. The use of honeycomb panels in conjunction with honeycomb connectors is the fastening technology of the future, creating a simple and strong connection.
