The House That Kevin Built
Hafele Sliding Door System Used on Grand Designs Live Project
Häfele UK have supplied a Hawa Junior 160 sliding door system for a house that was built by Grand Designs Presenter Kevin McCloud in 6 days, live on British television.
The house was built at the Excel Centre in London as part of Channel 4’s Grand Design Live exhibition. Kevin’s brief was to build a sustainable house using traditional materials and techniques alongside cutting edge 21st century technology. The architects were award winning practice BBM sustainable design based in Lewes, Sussex.
Häfele’s Hawa Junior 160 sliding system was selected for a large interior door, measuring 1600 x 2600mm, due to the space saving design of sliding doors compared to conventional hinged doors.
The Junior range of door gear which is made in Switzerland is a top hung system with an exceptionally light and silent action, suitable for door weights up to 250kgs. The Hawa range of products are distributed exclusively in the UK by Häfele.
