IIDA HEALTHCARE FORUM:  Modular Design + The Healthcare Environment

Healthcare interiors environments are dynamic and subject to change and reconfiguration more often than any other areas of design. The ever evolving nature of the medical practice has caused work spaces to change yet remain agile. Modular walls/design can help create high performing interior spaces, allowing the space to alter more easily as the needs of the institution change over time. This approach provides a cheaper more sustainable, and resilient options. Here are just a few key benefits of this design thinking we will explore:

> Promote sustainable, waste free interior wall construction
> Enable quick space changes as layouts require
> Contribute to a lean agenda for the design of a project
> Modular wall products typically are cost neutral when compared to stick built conventional construction.

Simply said; modular walls can provide great benefit for minimal to no appreciable cost and can become an integral part of a holistic space planning and construction process. Modular system solutions may very well be the future of smart design thinking that’s available now.

Moderator:Kristin Moore, Healthcare Specialist, DIRTT Environmental Solutions
Speakers: John Miller, Campus Program Manager (AECOM), Detroit Medical Center;  John Plappert, Healthcare Planning Principal, HDROnyekachi D. Akoma, Project Manager, SUNY Downstate Medical Center

2014 New Practices New York Competition Winners Presentation:
form-ula: Dormant Arousal

Join 2014 New Practices New York Competition winners Richard Sarrach, Tamaki Uchikawa, and Ajmal Aqtash of form-ula at the Hafele showroom for their presentation: Dormant Arousal

The world is full of things more powerful than us that are hiding in plain sight and if you know how to reveal them you can do amazing things. By harnessing these invisible forces and directing them into a material practice, we are finding new ways to think about the interface of architecture. Our interests lay in the aesthetics of these performances and how they can change the way we occupy and engage with space.
