Lehigh Valley Hospital’s staff in their rush to do many things didn’t always close and lock patient medication drawers. Through discussions with the hospital’s cabinet shop, it was discovered that medication drawers were not locked because of the time it takes to separate a mechanical key, turn and lock/unlock the drawer. In addition, the existing mechanical locks were failing from use.

Hafele suggested Dialock RFID keyless locks with an important customization. Jeff Winters, Hafele Regional Accounts Manager, explains “A unique feature we added for this project was a buzzer to remind nurses to shut the drawers to ensure locking. If the drawers are left open for more than 30 seconds, a buzzer will sound until the drawer is securely shut.”    

Brad Mann, Security Officer, Security Technologies Group for Lehigh Valley Hospitals says, “Dialock is hot”. The Dialock system’s one-step credentialing process for security staff saves time. Key cards are programmed in the security office and immediately ready to use.

Other proximity reader systems installed at the hospital are more cumbersome. At Lehigh Valley Hospital’s campus this means a round trip of up to forty minutes to configure a door lock. With Dialock in place these time consuming trips are eliminated.
