Sleek is in. There’s a continued (and growing) interest in longer, slimmer decorative hardware pieces. Most of our best-selling collections fall under the modern and contemporary style categories. We’re seeing our customers seek out these sleek, slim designs because they offer a clean, timeless look for cabinetry and furniture. Let’s talk color.

Cabinet color trends have a big influence on decorative hardware finish trends (no shock there). But there’s another player in the trend game these days – lighting – which can also impact hardware color selection, especially in kitchen and bath designs. A brighter space, with shinier countertops, needs a muted color to balance everything out. We believe this is one of the driving factors behind the growing popularity of our matt black, matt gold and brass finishes. These colors also pair well with trending and more traditional cabinet colors like whites, grays and blues and tend to compliment most kitchen and bath fixtures. Accessibility is (almost) everything.

Functionality is just as important as style when it comes to decorative hardware choice. We’ve seen how the pandemic has influenced kitchen design – especially when it comes to storage demands and the need for better accessibility. Designs today feature wider drawers and taller pantry pull-outs to accommodate this need for increased storage space. In response, cabinet handle preferences are trending toward longer designs. Lengths around 160 mm, 192 mm and handles with longer center to center measurements tend to complement these designs which include wider and longer cabinetry.

To mix or to match? 2021 saw a trend of mixing and matching hardware finishes throughout a kitchen or bath design … so what’s the deal for 2022? What we’ve noticed so far is that while some of our customers are still open to mixing and matching hardware finishes in their kitchen projects, most prefer to match their handles and knobs to the finishes used throughout the design.
